I started my plastic free journey last week by eliminating unsolicited junk catalogs that come in the mail. I'm using http://www.catalogchoice.org web site to help me. As the catalogs come in I pile them up until my scheduled hour each week.
Since starting my journey last week, I have purchased DuraFresh Wood Fiber wipes. No more paper towel for me. I've purchased cloth produce bags for the grocery store. I even asked the meat counter guys to wrap my meats in wax paper and butcher paper. They hesitated, looked at me funny but did it!
So far I feel really good about my attempts at eliminating plastic from my home and ME(Maine).
